So many of us invest our lives in chasing what others or the culture define worthy of pursuit. Only to discover that what we pursued was unfulfilling or unworthy of the sacrifice. Or in the words of King Solomon a “pursuit of the wind”.
The “pursuit of the wind” will increase exponentially at the end of the age. Understand this. That in the last days dangerous times of great stress and trouble will come. Difficult days that will be hard to bear.
For people will be lovers of self— narcissistic, self-focused. Lovers of money— impelled by greed. Boastful. Arrogant. Revilers. Disobedient to parents. Ungrateful. Unholy. Profane.
They will be unloving. Devoid of natural human affection. Calloused and inhumane. Irreconcilable. Malicious gossips. Devoid of self-control—intemperate, immoral. Brutal. Haters of good. Traitors. Reckless. Conceited.
Lovers of sensual pleasure rather than lovers of God. Holding to a form of outward godliness— religion. Although they have denied its power for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith. Avoid such people and keep far away from them. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Beloved, we are living in those times!
More than ever we should heed the words of King Solomon, the wisest man in the annals of biblical history.
I, the teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I decided to seek out and study the wisdom of the ages, of all that had been done under the heavens. I soon discovered the harsh realities of the work God has given us that keeps us so busy. I have witnessed all that is done under the sun. Indeed, all is fleeting, like trying to embrace the wind.
There is an old saying. Something crooked cannot be made straight, and something missing cannot be counted.
I mused over it all and thought to myself, “I have done great things. I have gained more wisdom than anyone who reigned over Jerusalem before me. I have contemplated great wisdom and knowledge.”
I decided to study wisdom and instead acquainted myself with madness and folly. It, too, seemed like trying to pursue the wind. For as my wisdom increased so did my vexation. As my knowledge grew so did my pain. Ecclesiastes 1:12:18
In these final days before Christ’s return, disciples of Christ must faithfully seek Papa’s wisdom— Christ and the cross.
Why?
Because the message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”
So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God in His wisdom saw to it that the world would never know Him through human wisdom. He has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.
It is foolish to the Jews who ask for signs from heaven, and it is foolish to the Greeks who seek human wisdom. So when we preach that Christ was crucified. The Jews are offended, and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.
But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise.
He chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.
God chose things despised by the world. Things counted as nothing at all and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.
As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God. He made us pure and holy, and He freed us from sin.
Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
It’s time beloved to seek the Lord while you can find Him. Call on Him now while He is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that He may have mercy on them.
Yes, turn to our God for He will forgive generously.
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth. So My ways are higher than your way, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.
The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry.
It is the same with My word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” Isaiah 55:6-11
