For the past fifteen years I have been on a transformational journey. Becoming a woman after God’s own heart— a jewel of incomparable worth.
In my quest to become this person, Proverbs 31:10-31 has been an invaluable source. Teaching me how to live a life of excellence. So both my character and actions honor the Lord.
Increasingly, the primary indictment against Christians by non-Christians is their lack of mercy. Perceived as judgmental, self-centered and preoccupied with material possessions. More often than not, turning a blind eye to the needs of others.
Unlike the Proverbs 31 woman who understands mercy is not optional.
She opens her hand to the poor. Yes, she reaches out her filled hands to the needy— whether in body, mind, or spirit.
Believers have been given a mandate by God to be conduits for His mercy. We have only ourselves to blame for the evils of starvation, human trafficking and wars. They are rampant because of our indifference and the absence of mercy.
As a Christian you are to do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.
If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink. Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil with good.
Clothe yourselves therefore as God’s own chosen ones. By putting on behavior marked by tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways and patience which is tireless and long-suffering and has the power to endure whatever comes.
If you are passive and do not actively resist evil. It will silently, stealthy interweave itself into the tapestry of your life. Offense, prejudice and hatred will replace understanding and empathy. Leading to distrustfulness and un-forgiveness— the antithesis of mercy.
Believers overcome evil by honoring and loving others as Jesus did— unconditionally.
A love that
- encourages, not condemns.
- accepts others for who they are at this moment in time.
- is a beacon of hope, not a harbinger of doom.
Until believers become agents of God’s mercy, not His judgment. Christianity will remain the religion of hypocrites in the eyes of the world.
We live in a dry, barren world that craves love. Give it a drink of mercy today and every day. Do not let it die of thirst.
Be a VOICE in the deafening sound of sameness!
This is so true! I love your last lines of encouragement 🙂
I love the Word of God! Its truth is beautiful. Meant to encourage us to become better. It truly is Good News! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week!
