The crowning touch!

What do all these phrases have in common? They are idioms— expressions that mean adding the finishing touch to something that is already very good.

Eve— woman was the Lord’s crowning touch. A jewel He created for Adam and the world.

A jewel many since have treated more like a lump of coal than a diamond. Denying women the opportunity to express their God-given inner beauty, gracious leadership and wisdom.

All one has to do is read Proverbs 31:10-31 to discover this potential. True! This scripture passage describes a godly wife. Even so, whether a wife or not, a woman after God’s own heart is a jewel of incomparable worth.

Proverbs 31:10 begins with a question.

A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman— who is he who can find her?

Capable. Intelligent. Virtuous. In other translations, truly good— strong character— excellent— superior in all that she is and all that she does are used.

Unlike today’s culture, where women are valued because of their outward beauty and sexuality. It is a woman’s inner beauty that is precious to the Lord. A woman who is

• strong— mentally and emotionally.
• wise and can think for herself.
• capable of making decisions and taking care of herself.
• honorable, ethical and moral.

Such a woman is beautiful in the eyes of the Lord. She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls. A rare find.

In the ancient world rubies and pearls were highly valued. Only a small, elite group of people possessed them.

Looking at the number of times ruby and pearl are used in the bible. One learns it is as rare as the gem itself. Ruby— the most precious and rarest gemstone in the world appears only three times and pearls eleven times.

At the time of Christ pearls were considered the most precious stone in the world. Julius Caesar is said to have paid the equivalent of one million dollars for a single pearl.

So valued by the Romans that the Latin word for pearl also means unique. After all it is the only gem formed within a living organism, and no two pearls are identical.

What does all this have to do with being a woman after God’s own heart?

You can only accomplish this by being formed within a living organism— Jesus Christ. He alone can

• transform you. Making you unique— a shining star in a world of image and people pleasing.
• equip you with God’s wisdom and truth. Without which you will never fulfill you God-given destiny.
• grace you during times of tribulation and temptation. Making your soul impenetrable to satan’s fiery darts.
• strengthen you to continue the journey. Instilling in you a hope that never dies.

Yes, a godly woman is rare. Not to be ignored, abused or taken for granted.

Women, you too can become worthy of both God’s and the world’s admiration. A precious and rare gem amidst an excess of costume jewelry. Someone who glorifies God by becoming a woman after God’s own heart.

Owing nothing to man because you are God’s.
