“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” If only this was true!
As children many of us chanted this. Sometimes in play, and sometimes to keep from crying when someone said something that hurt our feelings. Early in life we learn spoken words hurt, and sometimes more than we know or care to admit.
What about those spoken words that later become lies— broken promises? Growing up in a home where verbally abusive words and unfulfilled promises were commonplace. I learned early that love, lies and betrayal are a miserable and disheartening part of life.
Saying, “I love you!” but
- deserting you in your time of suffering or need. Love. Lies. Betrayal.
- forcing you to seek help from a stranger. Love. Lies. Betrayal.
- ignoring you until he/she has a need. Love. Lies. Betrayal.
If you offer to do something, do it! If you make a promise, keep it! Do not take credit for others ideas! Do not blame others for the choices you make! DO NOT LIE!!!!!
In my world I like to keep it black and white. Say what you mean and do what you say! Otherwise, keep silent!
