In the year 2000 I began my spiritual journey. Wholeheartedly committed to doing whatever it took to become a disciple— a lover of Jesus. Over time adding to my spiritual tool chest
- prayer
- church attendance
- tithing
- reading the Word
- meditating on the Word
- fasting
- worship
- reading books
- listening to podcasts
- attending conferences
- observing the Sabbath
These continue to play a role in my spiritual growth today. However, they are secondary to my personal relationship with the Lord. An intimacy that goes beyond “doing” spiritual stuff to truly knowing and loving Him.
Early in my spiritual journey I developed a spiritual growth plan based upon others experiences and recommendations. Although spiritual growth occurred, I always knew something was missing. That what others preached and taught as the path to intimacy with the Lord wasn’t my path.
As a child— not children of God, I finally realized that intimacy with God is as individualized as fingerprints and heartbeats. What works for one person doesn’t work for another. What works in one season of your life will wreck havoc in another season. Knowing that growth demands change, and nothing can be set in stone. I began embracing the ebb and flow of my spiritual disciplines.
However, there is and always will be one constant— obedience. Willingly changing whatever and whenever so that I can remain in intimate communion with the Lord. Basking in His love.
The axiom “one size fits all” doesn’t apply to your relationship with the Lord. Explore and discover what that relationship looks like for you. Don’t be shy or fearful! He’s a loving Father who enjoys teaching and playing with His children.
What do you say? Let’s go have some fun!
I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you abide in Me and I in you, you will bear great fruit. Without Me you will accomplish nothing. John 15:5
