Is enjoying, appreciating this moment in time to its fullest at the top of your “to do” list? Or are you living with your eyes focused on the future? Have you ever thought or said?
- When I graduate I will…
- When I get married I will…
- When I get that promotion I will…
- When I have children I will…
- When I have time I will…
- When I retire I will…
And then one day cancer… war… pink slip… natural disaster… divorce… infertility… death erects a roadblock in route to the land of I Will. In the blink of an eye an unexpected detour has taken you to the land of I Will Never.
Immediately upon your arrival, the I Will Never welcoming committee knocks on the door of your heart. Eagerly and enthusiastically showering you with regret and hopelessness. Reminding you of all that was sacrificed on the road to I Will. Relationships that were damaged or destroyed because they were secondary to your I Will time schedule and itinerary. Thanks to inadequate rest and stress. Physical and/or emotional illnesses now dictate how you live your life. Regardless of where you live.
Yes, planning for the future is wise. But plans written in stone inevitably crack under the pressure of unforeseen events. Only by trusting in the Lord’s wisdom, not yours or others will you be able to confidently proclaim. “I’ve learned to be content in whatever situation I’m in. I know how to live in poverty or prosperity. No matter what the situation, I’ve learned the secret of how to live when I’m full or when I’m hungry, when I have too much or when I have too little. I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.”
Stop living as if there are infinite tomorrows!
