Look around you. The walking wounded are everywhere. The wife who walks around on pins and needles because she is never sure which husband will wake up in bed next to her. Will he be the aloof, emotionally distant husband, or the man she fell in love with years ago? How about the single co-worker who always has an excuse for not joining her colleagues for after work fun? Remember that best friend from college who is continually dating Mr. Wrong, and doesn’t understand why she can’t find a faithful man. What about that teenager in your neighborhood who looks like he just crawled out of bed no matter what time of the day it is? Then there’s that grocery store cashier who never makes eye contact or smiles.
For peace to reign, as believers we must intentionally love those outside our circle of influence. If this means disrupting our personal agenda… risking public condemnation… remaining an anonymous benefactor, then so be it. As we overcome our fear, ignorance and hostility and extend the loving hands of Christ to our neighbors of different ethnic, cultural or religious backgrounds, we demolish the barriers to unity and peace. Creating the Church non-believers will trust because She looks like Jesus. She loves all, no exceptions.
