Last Sunday was a cool, rainy day— a perfect day for a Lord of the Rings marathon. I’ve watched the trilogy… I’ve lost count.
Not one to reread books or watch reruns, this trilogy I watch at least once a year if not more. This movie awakens my heart because it depicts individuals at their best. Choosing to be servants of a greater good by confronting evil. Risking their lives so others can live in peace. Permeating their existence are loyalty, honor and integrity.
Personal attributes needed more than ever. Today many are hopeless, disillusioned and cynical. Impairing judgment and wounding the heart.
Wounded hearts no longer able to peer into the future and see it filled with promise and love. Wounded hearts refusing to step out into the unknown and take risks. Wounded hearts that are unable to overcome the circumstances of life. Wounded hearts that choose to withdraw instead of confronting injustice.
The Lord of the Rings dramatizes how your choices impact those both inside and outside your circle of influence. Determining whether your life is one of legacy or mediocrity. Depositing beauty not ugliness into the world. Refusing to tolerate, minimize or worse yet accept evil. Looking evil squarely in the face and saying, “Not on my watch!”
“All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given you.”
Gandalf
I have not watched any of this trilogy. I know I will try to now that I know what it’s about.
Each movie is 3 hours or longer. You certainly get your money’s worth.
